Help: Choosing A Browser
When using this system, your choice of browser is more significant than with most other sites. We recommend that you use Netscape (Version 3.0 or better) or the Microsoft Internet Explorer (version 3.0 or better).
Our primary reasons for recommending these products:
- Implementation of the HTML 2.0 specification. Netcom and Compuserve users take heed! The Netcruiser (Netcom) and Air Mosaic (Compuserve) software that comes standard with your account does not fully support the HTML specification in important ways. Some features will not work! Please download a different browser.
- Implementation of the proposed HTML 3.0 specification. HTML 3.0 "tables" make viewing the complicated information in airline information displays much easier.
- These browsers also let you view information before it is finished loading. This is a real time saver. We send you the information as soon as it starts coming back. Even if we are still continuing to make your inquiries, you'll be able to see the first few options right away.
Browsers and their known problems:
- Please contact us if you have additions or modifications to this list
- Spry's AIR Mosaic (before Version 4.0) A.K.A. The Compuserve Browser
- Does not implement the HTML 2.0 <INPUT TYPE=HIDDEN ... > tag, which various features of our system use. Rumor has it that Compuserve is dropping the Spry product.
- Netcom's Netcruiser (version 1.x)
- Too little memory set aside for long forms. Browser will fail to send end of transmission signal, server still thinks there's more form information to receive. On some Windows systems, long forms will cause a GPF (General Protection Fault).
- Netscape (Version 1.x)
- Trying to print the result of a form, which should be strictly a local function, often causes the browser to resubmit the request for the form minus the information previously entered. Our system interprets this unfortunate situation as a blank submission and responds accordingly. Particularly annoying when trying to print flight schedules.
- Netscape Beta Browsers (Version 2.0b3 through 2.0b5)
- On Windows implementations of Netscape at this revision level you will not be able to enter the date in the availability request form. 2.0b5 fixes this problem.
- OmniWeb (some versions)
- Occasionally appends the bizarre string "\par" to the end of form field information when submitted. While this doesn't crash our system, it does make it difficult to do string matches on various options.
- NetManage Chameleon (some versions)
- Doesn't seem to return all fields in a form. Have noticed some users having trouble entering date and time of travel on the flight inquiry page.
